I was there. This one was shut down. I can’t remember if the first band blew a fuse in the place, or if it was stopped for some other reason. The “hall” was pretty shabby, if not a basement then a sunken ground floor.
An acquaintance of mine, who was mocked for looking like a hippie by the (tiny) crowd before it started, was disappointed at the stoppage. He threw a fire extinguisher through a window, if I remember right. A scuffle ensued, and the cops showed up. Our adolescent brains remembered this as a “riot” in subsequent years.
A sad story. Black Flag never played and Los Olvidados were always a good time.
BF weren’t allowed to play because of an 11 PM curfew. When someone announced this from the stage, there was unrest, at which point some genius decided to turn the lights out, then someone set off that fire extinguisher, and people started breaking windows. About a dozen cop cars showed up, and there were no punk shows allowed in SJ for years after that, so I’d say it could be classified as a riot.
